In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
He was in the beginning with God.
All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made.
In Him was life, and the life was the light of men.
And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.
He was in the world, and the world was made through Him, and the world did not know Him.
And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.
No one has seen God at any time. The only begotten Son, who is in the bosom of the Father, He has declared Him
~ The Gospel of John 1:1-5, 10, 14, 18 NKJV
Slow down. Take some time to sit with those words above. Read them multiple times. Slowly. Do you understand them? What does it mean that no one has seen God at any time? It means that no one has seen God’s fullness. The One who created the universe is not capable of being beheld in totality by finite human eyes or comprehension.
Do you comprehend what the Apostle John is saying about Jesus Christ? Because a vast amount of revelation is recorded in these simple words. This is not something the human mind came up with. It came by revelation from the Spirit of God.
Jesus is not just a man, He is God. He is the Son of God. He is the Word of God. All things were made through Him. It does not say the world was made by Him, but rather through Him. The grammar is important. God is complex. There are layers to His being. God the Father created all things through His Word (JESUS) and His Spirit (The HOLY SPIRIT).
God the Creator gave us an indescribable gift. In GOD there is WORD and SPIRIT, and God sent His Spirit to conceive His Word in the womb of a young virgin named Mary. The God of Glory poured His Life into a human being that would be born with the name JESUS. This is why He is called the Son of God. The Word is the Son and the Son is the Word. The Word preexisted His human birth because He was and is God. He is the express image of God and all the fullness of God abides in Him. Yet in a deep mystery, He is a distinct person from God the Father. He is One with God and yet distinct from the person of the FATHER because He is the SON.
Muslims believe in the historical reality of Jesus Christ. They believe he is the Messiah. They believe he was born of the virgin Mary. They believe he did miracles. But the most important things are hidden from them. They do not believe He was crucified and they do not believe He is the Son of God. Yet it is in believing these realities that a person comes to the knowledge of the salvation of God through Jesus Christ, and in believing the Son a person enters into the family of God. Jesus is your substitute. Where you lack, He is complete. When you rejected God, Jesus bridged the gap so you can come home. Jesus died for your sins so you could be reconciled to God. If Jesus did not die for you, you can have no forgiveness of sins. The sinless Life of Christ must cover your sinful life. In Him alone—Jesus—is the love of God revealed for you!
Either this is true or it is not. But Jesus did not just teach in secret and leave some cryptic writings behind. In fact, he did not write anything. He spoke and He did. Multitudes followed Him and they were transformed by Him. Those closest to Him left us recorded testimony about Him. They testified to the fact that Jesus died and rose again. And the Life of the Risen Lord Jesus has touched every country on earth. He is everywhere working by His Spirit and by His people, not corralling them into religion but transforming them by the power of His presence. JESUS is a living reality and you can enter into this reality because it is true!
The Apostle John, who was one of the youngest disciples, had a special bond of closeness with Jesus during the three years of Jesus’ earthly ministry. He became a leader both at the church in Jerusalem and later in Ephesus. John’s Gospel was written when John was an older man. He had suffered persecution for his testimony about Jesus being the Lord, the Son of God and Savior of the world. God must have impressed upon him the need to record what he held close in his heart and taught to many believers concerning Jesus Christ. Because he took the time to record his testimony of Christ, we have a stunning picture of who Jesus Christ truly is. And John was not alone in calling Jesus God, such was the testimony of Peter and later Paul, who had at one time persecuted the church until the living and resurrected Jesus Christ spoke to him from Heaven and totally altered the trajectory of his life from being chief antagonist to the church to being the apostle with the greatest impact on the world.
