It is no secret that the United States of America—a country whose very name speaks to the indivisible ideal of unity that the founders envisioned for it—is now and has been for many years a nation much divided and at war with itself. The assassination of Charlie Kirk on September 10th 2025 is in truth a demonstration of how very real that war is.
It makes the citizens of this nation think back to the assassinations of Abraham Lincoln, John F. Kennedy, and Martin Luther King Jr. The nation changed after these assassinations and it is changing even now because of the assassination of Charlie Kirk. We cannot go back to life before this.
Abraham Lincoln led this nation in dealing with the horrific sin of slavery, even though it brought us into a bloody civil war. His steadfast faith, courage, and determination led the nation in dealing a deathblow to the institution of slavery, but many hearts and minds were still infected with the prideful, cruel, and twisted poison of prejudice. Abraham Lincoln finished his course yet his life on earth was taken by assassination. JFK discovered a growing corruption in this nation’s intelligence community and as he was preparing to deal with it, he was assassinated publicly. And Martin Luther King Jr., a man of great oratory power, took a courageous yet peaceful stand against racial prejudice in this nation, and because some preferred hatred to peace, he was killed for it.
What unifies these leaders was that their God given conscience cried out for justice in the world they lived in. Their fight was not for that of a human agenda, but for truth and justice to be established on earth.
Charlie Kirk, a man similarly gifted and called, decided to reach the youth of this nation who have been deliberately propagandized in this nation’s schools and universities. While he fought for conservative political principles, he will not be remembered merely as a conservative crusader. The heartbeat of Charlie Kirk was and (since all who die in Christ have everlasting life) is to see the Name of Jesus Christ exalted and glorified in the hearts and minds of the citizens of the United States of America, the nation whose motto is IN GOD WE TRUST. This man knew that ideas alone will never change the heart of a person, only the power of God can do that.
So he was hated and killed because he was unafraid to speak the truth and tell people that there is only one Truth—Jesus Christ alone—who can save and redeem. Yet like every martyr throughout human history, his blood still speaks and it cries to God not merely for justice but also for righteousness because of the mercy of Christ. Much like the organization Charlie founded—Turning Point USA—may his vision and hope of an America turned back to God and established on the true foundation of Jesus Christ be perfected and fully realized through the power and purifying presence of the Lord God Almighty in this nation and in the lives of it’s citizens.
Yet we must address the division, the hatred, and the inner war. This nation—our nation—will never be whole and healed without truth and righteousness. We have taken in and fed on lies in this nation for so long that our land has been corrupted and many of our people are perverse and evil in heart and mind, in action and deeds.
Yet the Bible says that “we wrestle not against flesh and blood [human beings], but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places” (Ephesians 6:12). What does this mean? It means that we are not merely dealing with the ideas and actions of human beings, rather we are being influenced by a realm that we cannot see and perceive with our natural senses. It is this spiritual war—wrestling—that we experience both within and without.
God is real and so is the Devil. The war is not primarily about East vs. West, China vs. the US, Russia vs. Ukraine, Iran vs. Israel, Republicans vs. Democrats, right vs. left, and conservative vs. liberal. This is the outworking of a deeper, hidden evil. The war is not about you and the people that you think hate you or the people that you hate yourself. The war is an ancient dichotomy: God the Creator who is Truth and love, goodness, righteousness, and holiness vs. Satan whom Jesus called a murderer from the beginning and the father of lies (John 8:44).
While there are many countries and ethnicities of origin, many groups, affiliations, and interests, spiritually there are only two sides in this war, two kingdoms. Either you are in the Kingdom of God or you are in the dominion of the Devil.
Many have wanted to make this nation post-Christian…and “truth” they say is up to you: however you feel and whatever you want to believe. How liberating, one might think. Except that this is a lie! Opinion, viewpoint, and perspective is up to the individual. Truth, however, never has nor will be dependent on the individual; it is dependent on reality and given by God. When a nation loses belief and trust in God, then the State becomes the supreme authority and each individual becomes their own determiner of truth. This is why we are living in such turmoil in our nation. Our nation has been blessed when we have loved and served God, yet we have invited a curse upon ourselves when we abandoned Him.
The United States of America was founded to provide protection and refuge from the many abuses of religion that have been inflicted upon mankind by a devious and deceptive enemy—Satan. Yet this nation was never meant to be devoid of true religion or deprived of the very Word of God that provided the foundation for the liberties that have flourished here.
Very appropriately does Galatians 5:1 speak to the principle upon which the United States of America was founded, “Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage.” Many people from around the world have fled to the United States of America for refuge from oppression. Yet we have bought the lie that liberty is doing whatever we want, when that is not liberty but rather wanton unrestraint. Liberty without wisdom is folly. So who gives us true wisdom and true liberty? The Declaration Of Independence states that we are “endowed by our Creator with certain inalienable rights,” therefore it stands to reason that this Creator from whom we derive our rights, a just being who is certainly real and our ultimate authority, must also be the Source of our just laws and the wellspring of our righteousness. Nevertheless, we do not get to fashion a Creator we desire that suits us. This would be the sin of idolatry.
If we derive our life and our liberty from a Creator, then we ought to know who He is!
Not every god imagined is true. Yet there is one who is True—the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. Scripture says that JESUS is “the image of the invisible God…for by him [Jesus Christ] were all things created…all things were created by him, and for him” (Colossians 1:15-16).
In the ancient prophetic book of Isaiah, which is part of the Old Testament, Jesus Christ is revealed as a Child and a Son, and it goes on to say that, “the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace” (Isaiah 9:6).
There is no liberty without Christ, who is the visible image of the invisible God. God our Father through Jesus Christ as the eternal Word and Son of God is the Creator that the Declaration of Independence references. He is the True God. The blessing and freedom we have in America is because of Him, not something we have manufactured on our own.
The United States of America is a beacon of truth and liberty, a nation that welcomes all peoples but requires reverence for God and respect toward all men. God fashioned this nation to be a prophetic signpost that points all nations to the coming Kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, yet the Devil wants not only to dim this nation’s light—he wants to corrupt and destroy it.
Make no mistake, I am not saying that America should be idolized. God forbid. There are some who idolize this country, and they sin against God. But America has been a gift and a sign by God to the world, nonetheless.
Lastly, can this nation be healed? God knows and all things are possible for those who believe. As someone who suffers from autoimmune disease, I am intimately acquainted with my body attacking itself because my immune system thinks that my own cells are foreign invaders. Yet I cannot be healed by attacking myself.
The same is true for this country: we will not be whole or healed when we consider our own people the enemy, attacking or killing them. Remember, this is not a war against flesh and blood. We war against spiritual entities, evil spirits, demonic powers from a dominion that is not friendly to us. These are the true strangers, foreigners, and aliens. This is the true enemy: that which influences, attaches itself to, or possesses a person. What we feed ourselves matters—physically and spiritually. What we listen to, watch, and read changes us for the good or the evil.
God says to listen to Him, to read His Word—get to know Jesus Christ for yourself by reading the Word of God. Read humbly, patiently, expectantly. There will be much that doesn’t make sense right away.
Don’t judge God by the things that you don’t fully understand. God is good, always. Remember that when the questions and doubts come. Keep going!
He is your True Father, and He invites you come to His Kingdom through His Son. Let Him send the Spirit of His Son into your heart so that you can call Him Father and know that you have been born again, made a son or daughter of God through Jesus Christ! Jesus died for all people, not just the ones who believe in Him. Let Him give you His eyes to see that all people are created in the image of God, equally worthy of dignity and love while at the same time also broken and damaged by the sin within them and the sins that others have committed against them. Justice will come, yet we must remember that we have all sinned against God and each other. It is the patience and goodness of God that leads us to repentance. And it is the love of Christ that will heal this nation, or it will not be healed at all.
We have heard Your Word, O LORD, and we were afraid.
O LORD, revive Your work in these times, and in our days make them known.
In judgment, O LORD, remember Your mercy!
~ Paraphrased Prayer from Habakkuk 3:2
Glorify Yourself, O God, and be exalted in this nation, Lord Jesus Christ!
’Til Your Kingdom Come
